How to choose a Designated Pilot Examiner
A Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE) is an experienced pilot the FAA has authorized to conduct practical tests, the checkrides that end in a new certificate or rating. Each DPE is approved for specific tests and aircraft categories, published by the FAA as function codes, so the first check is whether an examiner can give the exact ride you need: private, instrument, commercial, CFI, ATP, or a type or category rating, in airplanes, helicopters, gliders, or other aircraft.
